Description
DHM - Dihydromyricetin - for "The Morning After"
Dihydromyricetin (DHM)
Dihydromyricetin (DHM), also known as ampelopsin, is a natural flavonoid found in plants such as Chinese vine tea (Ampelopsis grossedentata) and the Japanese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis). It has been used in traditional East Asian medicine and is now sold as a dietary supplement.
Common Uses
- Hangover and alcohol recovery support
- Liver health support
- Antioxidant supplementation
- Metabolic health research (blood sugar and cholesterol)
- Cognitive and neurological health research
Potential Benefits
1. May Reduce Alcohol-Related Effects
Research suggests DHM may influence the same brain receptor system (GABA-A receptors) affected by alcohol and may help reduce some effects of intoxication and alcohol-related symptoms in animal studies. Human evidence remains limited.
2. Liver Protection
Animal studies and limited human research suggest DHM may help protect the liver from alcohol-related and fatty liver damage. A small clinical trial in people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease reported improvements in liver enzyme levels.
3. Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activity
DHM demonstrates antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helping neutralize oxidative stress and regulate inflammatory pathways in laboratory and animal studies.
4. Metabolic Health
Studies suggest DHM may improve blood sugar control and lipid profiles, though more human clinical trials are needed.
5. Neuroprotective Potential
Research is exploring DHM's possible role in protecting brain cells and supporting healthy aging and cognitive function. Most evidence so far comes from laboratory and animal studies.
